Design handoff habits that prevent frontend rework

A useful handoff explains behavior, priorities, and edge cases—not only measurements and polished screens.

The strongest design handoffs begin before the final screen is ready. Designers and engineers need a shared understanding of the user goal, the content hierarchy, and the states that make the interaction complete.

I document the decisions that are easy to lose in a static frame: what changes on a small screen, which content may grow, how empty and error states behave, and where motion supports comprehension. This gives the implementation team context instead of a collection of unexplained measurements.

A good handoff also leaves room for technical feedback. When engineers can challenge assumptions early, the team avoids polishing a direction that will be expensive or fragile to build. The result is a calmer implementation and a product that stays closer to its original intent.
